About Kathy My Thi
Kathy My Thi is a Vietnamese American artist from Westminster, California.
Artist Work In The Studio:
Kathy My Thi is a self taught artist who dived into visual art using mixed media to paint from representative forms to the blend of semi-abstract expressionism. Her work has cultivated within 7 years of practice as a painter. In 2025, Kathy’s work as an impressionist painter began to take form as she integrates her own spin on Impressionism.
Kathy's art composes of contemporary concepts exploring abstract texture, expressionism, Impressionism, and Post-Impressionism. Though her abstract art can take the form of non traditional art form, her figurative painting moves to a traditional approach inspired by themes of her own experience of spiritual awakening and divine connection. Kathy's paintings are influenced from the natural landscapes of California, through en plein air along the coast, green valleys, and rose bush flower gardens, capturing moments of serenity, movement, and atmosphere. She also develops her work from her indoor studio based in Orange County and San Diego County, where she continues to blend texture, emotion, and light into her artistic process.
Innovating the art
Her latest new work of art form called the Silk Oil Threading technique was inspired by her cultural heritage embrace of Vietnamese roots as an Asian American. Using oil paint as a medium, Kathy innovated art culture to create silk-like texture bring new styles of creative work.
"I do enjoy different styles between abstract and representative art or the gray areas of mixed art styles. I find art to not be so limited in what I can create as an artist, but in an expansive spiritual way and to be able to create freely as I am in the moment."
